Norman Tait Eagle Clan

Norman Tait
Norman Tait belongs to the Eagle Clan from the Nishga village of Kincolith. He began carving in 1970 and spent several years learning to differentiate between Tsimshian, Gitksan and Nishga carving traditions. This knowledge he is passing on to young Nishga carvers, "to awaken an interest in a tradition that has existed mainly in textbooks and museums for a very long time." Norman works mainly in wood, silver and gold; and occasionally in goat horn and ivory. He finds silkscreen printing the comtmporary medium of Northwest Coast Art, demands tighter control and knowledge of design elements, lending itself well to story telling.

Donald Yeomans Haida Ravens

Donald Yeomans
Don Yeomans is a member of the Haida Ravens from Masse, B.C. His training in Northwest Coast Indian Art began at an early age under the guidance of his aunt, well known carvber and teacher Freda Diesing. In 1976, she encouraged Don to undertake more formal studies in the Fine Arts Programme at Vancouver Community College, Langara. Here through exposure to many different artists and art styles, Don discovered new ways to enhance his conception of Native art. The theme and style of Don's graphic often cross cultural lines, including those within the Northwest Coast Idian art community. Although perhaps best known for his graphics, Don is also an accomplished carver of wood, ivory, agillite, silver and gold.
